update-i’m done with my internship at the wonderful/amazing/inspiring VII Photo Agency. It was a pleasure to work with everyone there, at whatever capacity that involved. Never got my cup of joe with Jim, but thats what the future is for. I’m not dreaming anymore.. New York City has a way of helping you actualize all the things you ever wished for. they are all right in front of you.. its up to you to grab hold and never stop climbing that rope. success isnt a ladder, its a rope that you climb inch by inch. for the next year i’m doing everything in my power to return to the beloved BK.

i’m back in boston mass working at the nieman foundation for journalism at harvard university, as well as for the harvard news office and harvard gazette get at me.

i want to meet you. not in a weird.. lets get drinks.. lets go back to my place.. lets not think about our responsibilities type way.. rather, i’m looking for people who dont mind incessant whistling the peanuts theme song or spending a few good hours absorbing vitamin d. some people say i’m always wrong. i say i’m always close. i’ll let you be the judge.

i’m one of those villanous characters with two first names. i’ve heard you cant trust people with two first names, but i just started reading the davinci code and i’m starting to think you cant trust people in general. i feel like i’ve been living in 6-month bursts for the past 4 years, always interrupted by rediculous plane rides home or poorly navigated road trips. i dont know where home is anymore, and its starting to bother me. some people think its exciting, but you know what they say about people (cant trust em). life just seems like its moving way too fast, and now that my dreams of being a child prodigy have been left behind i’m trying to make something of myself.

in summary: dont be shy, and dont be jealous. thats all i ask. i really am a nice guy.

take a moment and view my photo essays @ my workblog. (which hasnt been updated in a good year. will get to it.)

  3. I too have two first names and have found through my years that people can be trusted. Just pick your people carefully. It is said that cameras don’t take pictures, people do. To be a bit more specific-the eye is the guy.
You have the eye of Vee I I. Go with it.
Your future is as bright as your eye, trust it.

  7. I miss you matthew. You still are that child prodigy – but more of a man now.. moving from big city to big city, probing the best out of each place with your camera. Haha, we have to hang out when you come back. We’re both 21 now so we can have fun 🙂 hope NYC is treating you well love. Best regards, DCY

  9. I like how the duke posts at 4:33 am. solid advice at the wee hours to boot. loved my time in Brooklyn, and personally, I couldn’t be happier for you and where you are going.

still, couple of things to think about:

go outdoors, not just to a city park, go camping. a park is just a fiends quick fix to the real outdoors.

know that you have shown that you have just as much talent/vision/drive as anyone in the biz. you shouldn’t look up to these people anymore, they are now your colleagues/competition, and to be honest, they will one day look up to you.

always push the envelope. (sorry for the cliche)

never, ever forget where you came from.

and lastly, always remember that you have quite the large support base.

Had a great time with you and the commie P in NYC. Life is only getting started.

  10. first off matt. i’m proud of you. after reading your bio i thought “is this really craig?”.. probably not as i’ve known you. then putting you’re thoughts in conjunction with corporate dave’s post.. i’ve reached this conclusion. perhaps being a child prodigy is overrated. bobby fischer.. michael jackson.. but the word prodigy is derived from the Latin prodigium- harbinger of change (i google). so perhaps.. perhaps your prodigious moment has yet to come.. and perhaps you’re better for it.
i plan to be in boston at some point in the upcoming months. holla atcha boy.

  12. Just found your website through the “Street Photography for the Purist” eBook, and I wanted to take a moment and say just how inspiring your work is. I’ve added you to my reader and will definitely be following your future posts.

I’m just getting into photography myself, and I would love to get into capturing the pure emotion seen in so many of your street photographs. Any tips for beginners?
